1318843 Plant growth regulation using aliphatic carboxylic acids OSTERREICHISCHE STICKSTOFFWERKE AG 9 Feb 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 6160/72 Heading C1B Compositions for influencing the water balance and increasing the yield of plants contain as active ingredient an aliphatic carboxylic acid of 5 to 12 carbon atoms and of formula R-X-(CH 2 ) n -Y-(CH 2 ) m -COOH wherein R is H or C 1 to C 9 alkyl, X is -CO- or -CHOH-, Y is -CO-, -CHOH-, or -CH 2 - and n and m are from 0 to 9, or a salt, ester or amide of said aliphatic acid. Fertilizers, plant protection agents, growth regulators and/ or soil improvement agents also may be present. Examples of active ingredients are 3-hydroxyoctanoic; 2,3-dihydroxyoctanoic; 10,11-dihydroxyundecanoic; 3-ketooctanoic; 4,7-diketooctanoic; 4,7-diketononanoic; and 2-keto- 3-hydroxyoctanoic acids.
