Abstract
1,227,402. Containers for frangible plates. FLOTEPAK CORP. 3 May, 1968 [5 May, 1967], No. 20990/68. Heading B8P. A container for glass plates 80 comprises two pairs of transversely extending support beams 22, 32 secured to opposite walls of the container (20, 30) to engage opposite edges of the plates 80, and two pairs of support beams 50, 52 secured to opposite container walls 42, 44, which may be curved to contact the facing surfaces of a plurality of stacked plates at the top and bottom. At one side, the plates are separated from each other and interfitted with beam 22 by means of stabilizers 60 each comprising a rectangular cardboard blank folded centrally and having an adhesive portion 74 and a flap 66 with barbs 67 to latch against shoulders 65 in the folded position. At the other side, the plates are separated by means of U-shaped pads 86 on alternate plates. Additional U-shaped spacers (90) may be placed between some of the stabilizers 60 and pads 86. In a modification, the container is formed of wide slats, a metal strap (182) may be used to lock the top support beam in position if the load is lower than the container, and the stabilizers 60 are interlocked by passing the flap 66 of one through the opening 76 in the next so that the barbs 67 of the first interlock with the walls (60a) of the second.
