Abstract

1,227,214. Self adjusting brake linkage. H. O. SCHROTER. 7 June, 1968 [10 June, 1967], No. 27269/68. Heading F2E. A self adjusting linkage for use in a handbrake mechanism comprises a unidirectional ratchet device formed by a ratchet bar 1 sliding in a channel member 4 which carries a pair of pawls 2, 3, pivoted so that they are half-a-tooth out of phase and permit only contraction of the linkage. A further channel member 7 sliding on the bar 1 carries a pawl 8 attached by a tension spring 9 to the main channel 4. A bar 12 attached to the chassis at 13 passes through an abutment 11 on the channel 7 and permits limited movement between a back-stop 6 and an adjustable front-stop 5. When movement of the linkage exceeds this limit the channel 7 and pawl 8 are moved back one tooth on brake application, and the main channel member is pulled back by spring 9 on release.
