Abstract
1,227,183. Dispensing measured quantities of liquids. METROPOLITAN GAS METERS Ltd. 15 April, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 24597/68. Heading B8N. [Also in Division H1] Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of liquids, e.g. beer, comprises a cylinder having a member, e.g. a piston, or ball, movable therealong or a chamber having a flexible diaphragm therein, solenoid valve means for admitting liquid to one side of the member or diaphragm and dispensing of liquid from the other side and vice versa, and electric circuit means for controlling the operation of the solenoid valve means. As illustrated, liquid is pumped from a source 19 via solenoid-operated valves C or D to the cylinder 1 containing a movable piston 3. Upon movement of the piston liquid is forced via solenoid-operated valves B or A into a dispensing pipe 11. A reed switch 16 energized upon magnet 13 being moved along chamber 15 when liquid flows to a dispensing outlet ensures operation of the apparatus to dispense a full measure. A screw 17 permits the quantity dispensed to be adjusted. In the circuitry of Fig. 2, terminals 25, 26 are connected to a lamp adjacent the outlet, terminals 27, 28 are connected to a solenoid-operated outlet valve which when closed prevents drip from the outlet and terminals 21, 22 are bridged momentarily upon actuation of a push-button. Initially the solenoid-operated valves are closed. Depression of the push-button energizes relay RLA/2 which closes contact RLA1 and switches over contact RLA2, thus energizing the motor for driving a pump 18, extinguishing the lamp, actuating a sequence change-over relay RLB/2, and opening the outlet valve. Successive actuations of the relay RLB/2 cause contacts RLB1, RLB2 to open alternately, thus valves A, D or B, C are opened upon depression of the push-button. Switch 16 remains closed, thus energizing relay RLA/2, until liquid flow in the outlet pipe 11 stops.
