Abstract

Cartridge belts. - Relates to metal-link cartridge belts in which the cartridges themselves form the hinge pins, and consists in arranging the cartridge clips on the links so that the cartridges can be removed therefrom by a downward movement through the agency of a feed finger which is inserted between a cartridge and the body part of a link. In the form shown in plan in Fig. 3 and in side elevation in Fig. 2, similar links 1 formed of stamped metal plate have transverse portions 2, 3 with cartridge-engaging clips 5, 7 and 9, 10 respectively. The centre portion of each link is cut away at 11 so that the chain can be folded into zigzag form. The chain may also, if desired, be wound upon a drum. The rim 8 of the cartridge 4 fits between the end of the clip 7 and a depending tongue 13, and the chain is guided in the gun by end portions 14 which engage grooves in the feed block. Fig. 6 shows in plan a modification in which the chain is made up of alternate wide and narrow links 2<a>, 3<a>, each of which has the inside arms of the cartridge clips formed on a plate such as 16, Fig. 8, riveted beneath the plates carrying the outside clip portions. In each construction the cartridges are removed in a downward direction by inserting a feed member in the space 20, Fig. 2.
