Abstract

1,226,769. Holography. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. May 14, 1969 [May 31, 1968], No.26311/68. Heading G2J. A holographic cinematic film A is produced by discontinuously moving a film along a curved path D at the centre of curvature of which lies the scene O to be filmed; successive frames of the film being simultaneously exposed to mutually coherent light from the scene and a reference source C lying on the axis of curvature of the film, the film then being developed. Preferably successive frames overlap by half a frame height. Also it is preferred that the ratio of frame height to radius of curvature does not exceed about 0À175. The scene O may comprise successive frames of a non-holographic cine-film. To reconstruct the scenes the holographic film is continuously moved along a path having the same curvature D as during exposure and is illuminated with a reconstructing light beam having the same direction relative to the film as the reference beam. The images produced may either be virtual or real. The holographic cine-film may have at least one pair of frames spaced apart in side-by-side relationship on the film to represent stereoscopic views. If desired multiple light sources may be used for viewing colour images.
