Abstract

Fusible and inflammable sprinkler heads.-The valve of an automatic sprinkler head is held on its seat in a perforated dome-shaped spraying- chamber by lover mechanism adapted to be released either by the ignition of an explosive composition or by the fusion of solder. The perforated dome-shaped chamber 1 is screwed on to a nipple 20, and is provided with a circumferential slot 19 and internal ribs 2. The stem 7 of the valve 22 engages a locking-screw 13 passing through a lever 10 pivoted at 8. The other end of the lever 10 is held down by a slotted locking- plate 17 passing through a slot in an horizontal plate 42 closing an explosive-containing chamber 31, the lower end 30 of which is in pivotal engagement with a forked projection 27. A fuse 34 passes through a tubular extension of the chamber 31 into contact with the gunpowder or other explosive contained therein. The lower end of the locking-plate 17 is slotted to engage a projection 39 on the chamber 31. The plate 42 is released, to free the valve-holding mechanism, either by being blown off on ignition of the explosive or by the fusion of solder normally securing a pin 38 to the chamber 31.
