Abstract
1,225,875. Piperazines. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 26 July, 1968 [29 July, 1967], No. 35781/68. Heading C2C. A piperazine is prepared by reacting an ethanolamine, a diethanolamine or a glycol having the general formula in which either R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> each denote a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl radical or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form a 5- to 12-membered cycloaliphatic ring, and X denotes a hydroxyl group or the radical in which H is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and R<SP>5</SP> is a hydrogen atom or the radical in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, and R<SP>3</SP> are as defined above, with ammonia or a primary amine in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst containing cobalt and/or nickel and an inorganic pyroacid, polyacid or a salt thereof at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the liquid phase. Suitable starting materials of the formula given above are ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, ethanolamine, N - methylethanolamine, N - decylethanolamine, isopropanolamine, cyclohexanolamine - (1,2), phenylethanolamine, isobutanolamine - (1,2), diethanolamine and diisopropanolamine. Suitable primary amines are methylamine, ethylamine, butylamine, stearylamine, palmitylamine, cyclohexylamine, cyclooctylamine, cyclododecylamine, benzylamine and # - phenylethylamine.
