Abstract

1,225,343. Dispensing measured quantities of liquid. T. IKETANI. 4 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 6063/69. Heading B8N. [Also in Division F1] A pressurized dispensing container valve assembly for automatically and periodically dispensing a measured quantity of the container contents, e.g. disinfectant or insecticide, through a spray nozzle 36, comprises a heat-responsively movable bi-metallic disc 45 mounted in an expansion chamber 47 connected to the discharge passage 31 of the valve assembly, so that when the discharge valve 37 is opened by downward movement of disc 45 due to heating by the ambient atmosphere, a small quantity of the container contents passes into chamber 47, via clearance around actuating rod 46, where it vaporizes, and cools disc 45, to cause closure of valve 37. A measured quantity is discharged at each valve operation, due to valve member 37 closing ports 38 in its open position. Container valve 19 is opened by rod 40 when valve assembly casing 9 is screwed on to the container. In Fig. 3 (not shown), for use in low ambient temperatures, an electric heater is located adjacent a bi-metallic disc, the electrical circuit being opened and closed by the movement of the disc relative to the heater, and the container and valve assembly being mounted in a casing together with a battery for energizing the heater. In Fig. 4 (not shown), a spring-loaded button is located above the bi-metallic disc for depressing the disc to provide manual actuation of the valve. In Fig. 5 (not shown), a layer of spongy material is provided in the expansion chamber between the bi-metallic disc and vent hole 42 to slow down the response of the bi-metallic disc. In Fig. 6 (not shown), a closed flexible top is provided on the expansion chamber and has an internal projection for manual depression of the bi-metallic disc, the expansion chamber vent hole being located in the side of the chamber to direct the vented gas in the spray direction. In this embodiment, the valve assembly casing is axially movable relative to the container, by screw threads, to open and close a valve for isolating the container contents from the automatic valve during shipment. In Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), a cover of insulating material has a series of discharge apertures alignable with the valve assembly nozzle at different axial positions of the cover on the valve assembly, providing different levels of insulation of the valve assembly from the ambient temperature. The bi-metallic disc may be mounted at three points on its periphery, Figs. 10 to 14 (not shown).
