Multi-contrast light sensitive materials comprise a support bearing a layer containing two independently prepared silver halide emulsions which are both spectrally sensitized by the same dye or dye mixture to light in a spectral region (same for both) outside the region in which the emulsions are inherently sensitive, so that the difference in sensitivity of the emulsions to light in the inherently sensitivity region differs from the difference in sensitivity in the sensitized region so that grey wedge prints having different gradations are produced by exposures in the inherently sensitive and sensitized regions respectively followed by development under identical conditions. By exposing the materials to light containing different proportions of light to which the materials are sensitized and inherently sensitive, different contrasts are obtained. The dye(s) may be incorporated (a) in both emulsions during the independent preparations, (b) in a water-permeable layer adjacent the emulsion layer, or (c) in diffusible form in one of the emulsions and allowed to diffuse to the other after mixing.
