A cast permanent magnet consists of mixed crystals having a composition: - CO (5-x) AX R (1-d) wherein A is one or more of Al, Cu and Ni, 0 < x < 4, 0 < d # 0À17 and R is one or more of rare earth metals and Y. In an example a composition consisting of CO 3 Cu 2 Sm 0À86 is homogenized at 1000‹C. quenched and annealed at 600‹ C.
