Abstract
1,224,916. Colour television tubes. SONY CO. 16 July, 1968 [19 July, 1967; 13 April, 1968], No. 33821/68. Heading HID. [Also in Division H2] In a plural-beam colour television display tube in which the beams generated at in-line cathodes KR, K G , K B intersect at the main focusing lens L and are converged to a common point at the screen by a deflecting system F which comprises a centre pair of plates P, P<SP>1</SP> co-operating with an outer pair of deflection plates Q, Q<SP>1</SP>, the anode voltage on the wall coating 28 is applied to at least one of the plate pairs, as shown, the inner plates P, P<SP>1</SP>, by a resilient connection, e.g. a coil spring 27, and a different voltage is applied to the other plate pair, Q, Q<SP>1</SP>, by means of a conductive connection 36 from a terminal button 39 in the tube neck disposed near the main lens L. The terminal button is flush with the inner and outer surfaces of the neck wall and the internal connection to the lead 36 is by means of a second coil spring 37. With this arrangement sliding of the gun structure into the tube neck in manufacture and of the deflection yoke D along the outside of the tube neck may be facilitated and the external point of application of the convergence deflection voltage is spaced from the deflection yoke and from tube parts at a substantially different voltage a sufficient distance to avoid electrical discharges. Electrical connection is made between the plates P, P<SP>1</SP> of convergence system and an extension of the electrode G5 5 through angle members 23, 23<SP>1</SP>. A getter 33 is supported by a member 32 in a getter chamber 34 between support rings 30, 31. In a further embodiment, including a convergence deflection system F i , F 2 , Fig. 3, having pairs of divergence deflection plates Q 1 , P; Q 1 <SP>1</SP>, P<SP>1</SP> followed by pairs of convergence deflection plates Q 2 , H; Q1 2 , H<SP>1</SP>, the plates Q 1 , H and Q<SP>1</SP> 1 , H<SP>1</SP> are interconnected by leads 51, 511 and the connection to the anode layer 28 is via coil springs 52, 52<SP>1</SP> attached to the leads 51, 511. The terminal button 39 is connected to the electrode G 5 via a coil spring 54. In another embodiment (Fig. 5) the anode voltage is applied to the plates Q, Q<SP>1</SP> rather than to the plates P, P<SP>1</SP> of Fig. 1 and the connection is by means of a leaf-spring (90). In this embodiment the terminal button 39 is further back and connected to the electrode G 3 rather than to G 5 as in Fig. 3. An external coupling connection to the terminal button 39 is provided by a coil spring held in an insulating member provided with flanges clamped around the tube neck (Fig. 7).
