Abstract
1,224,794. Drying particulate material. ORUM MASKINFABRIK I/S. 8 March, 1968 [8 March, 1967], No. 11331/68. Heading F4G. In an apparatus for uniformly drying particulate material (e.g. grain) in which the material moves down a vertical passage and is subjected to a transverse hot air flow, the rate of flow of material through the passage is controlled by one or more thermal probes in contact with the material. In the embodiment shown the apparatus comprises two vertical passages 1, 2, a vibratory discharge mechanism 9 driven by motor 10 and a thermal probe 8. The material is treated with warm air from zone 5 and cool air from zone 7. If the material is being underdried, the motor 10 is stopped by the probe 8 to stop the flow of material through the discharge mechanism and then restarted by the probe when the material is being dried to the desired extent, to allow the material to be discharged. The probe may act only to stop or start the motor in which case a switch mechanism is provided to start or stop the motor a predetermined period after the stopping or starting, respectively, by the probe. The apparatus may carry out the drying process continuously.
