Abstract

1,224,138. Capsule rejection apparatus. PARKE, DAVIS & CO. 12 May, 1969 [27 May, 1968], No. 24168/69. Heading B8C. In capsule manufacturing apparatus in which the two halves of telescopic capsules 50 are formed separately and are transported to a guide block 40 (where they are joined and ejected) by collet means 51, capsule halves which are too long and hence project from the collet are detected and rejected (or damaged so as to cause subsequent rejection) by the device of the invention which comprises a member 10 supporting a series of upstanding fingers 20 each of which has a horizontally projecting boss 24 facing the collet means and arranged to reciprocate horizontally across the line of travel of the collet means in timed relationship therewith so that the fingers reach the operative position shown in Fig. 3 just before the collet arrives at the same point whereby the boss 24 contacts over-long capsule ends 52 and removes or damages them. Thereafter the fingers are moved to a retracted position (Fig. 4) where they remain out of the path of the collet means until the next stroke of the apparatus, the motion being imparted by means of a cam/cam follower arrangement and catch rod associated with the frame carrying the collet means (see Figs. 5 and 6, not shown).
