Abstract

1,223,830. Valves. SYBRON CORP. 13 Oct., 1969, No. 50269/69. Heading F2V. A valve for a ephygmamanometer apparatus, comprises a cylindrical portion 18 having an axially extending passage therethrough, a port 21 connecting the passage with a converging channel 22 on the outer surface, and a sleeve 30 rotatably mounted on the portion 18 having a blocking surface 32 adapted in at least one position of the sleeve to seal the port 21 and channel 22. The valve has nipples 14 and 16 at the ends for connection to a squeeze bulb and the apparatus, respectively, and a check valve is housed within a portion 12. A collar 40 is secured by a screw 42 on to the portion 18, and has stops 46, 46<SP>1</SP> to limit the rotation of the sleeve 30. A backing portion 34 in the sleeve 30 forms the surface 32 into engagement with the portion 18. In operation, air pressure is pumped through the axial passageway, with the port 21 and channel 22 closed, and, after the maximum blood pressure reading has been taken, the sleeve is adjusted to allow the air to leak from the apparatus. Rotation of the sleeve 30 causes the edges of the surface 32 to clean the surface of the portion 18.
