Abstract
1,223,687. Moulding concrete articles; ejecting articles from moulds. WORSLEY MESNES ENG. Ltd. 1 Oct., 1968 [9 Aug., 1967], No. 36478/67. Heading B5A. Pressed concrete articles e.g. kerb edgings are made by pouring concrete into a mould, compressing the concrete, releasing the pressure, removing a side wall of the mould and ejecting the article sideways from the mould. Preferably the concrete layer is formed on top of a sheet of gauze and a sheet of paper and both are short walls of a rectangular mould are removed before ejection by a horizontally operating plunger. As shown, a rectangular mould 10 (seen end on in Fig. 1,) has side walls 12, 13, base 14 and is mounted on a carriage movable on rails 27 by piston 18. The end walls of the mould are mounted on pistons 25 also mounted on the carriage. The mould is filled from ladle 21 and is moved by cylinder 18 to a position under die block 15 which is lowered by pistons and cylinders 16 to compress the concrete. The carriage is returned to the position shown, the end walls are lowered by pistons 24, 25 and the formed block is pushed out by plunger 19 (Fig. 8). The process and apparatus can be used to form blocks with curved edges (e.g. profiled by mould wall 13) which cannot be lifted out of the mould.
