Abstract

1,223,668. Grates. FONDERIE E OFFICINE DI SARRONNO S.p.A. 3 Oct., 1969 [3 Oct., 1968], No. 48826/69. Heading F4B. The stepped grate of a refuse incinerator is formed of fixed grate bars 10, provided with reciprocable pushers 16. Each bar 10 includes an upper horizontal " tread " forming portion over which the pusher of the superjacent step reciprocates, an intermediate inclined portion formed of a series of small steps, and a lower vertical portion with which the pusher, located below it, is aligned when in its retracted position, to form the " rise " of the step. Each pusher in a row is attached to a common beam member 18 driven from a double acting hydraulic piston and cylinder unit (Fig. 5, not shown) through members 19-21. Microswitches 31, 32, and cams 29, 30 are provided to allow adjustment of the stroke of the pushers, and also serve to control the sequential operation of the rows of pushers, starting with the lowermost row. Combustion air is supplied through slots between adjacent bars or pushers.
