Abstract
1,223,636. Making coils. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB. 11 July, 1968 [12 July, 1967], No. 33094/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H1] In a liquid-cooled magnet for a particle accelerator comprising turns of a relatively thick conductor lying in one plane and having a coolant channel therein, the channel is lined with a metal tube, which at its joints is welded together and is surrounded by two conductors which are electrically connected to one another and to the rest of the conductor. Yoke pieces 5 made from two conducting copper bars having a channel which is lined with a stainless steel tube 3 are welded together at 6 to form a flat coil. Adjacent pairs of bars are electrically insulated from one another by material 4. The gaps 11 between the yoke pieces are filled after welding at 6, by brazing in two conducting bars 9a, 9b and subsequently insulating adjacent pairs of connecting bars. The entire coil is then embedded in epoxy resin.
