Abstract

1,223,439. Releasable fastenings. C. E. MARSHALL (WOLVERHAMPTON) Ltd. 14 July, 1969 [31 Aug., 1968], No. 41710/68. Heading E2A. [Also in Division H1] A control mechanism for a rotatable switch (an ignition switch is described), once the switch has been moved to the "fire" position and returned to the "Ignition Light" position, prevents retent movement to the "Fire" position until the switch has been moved to at least the "Suniliarias" position. The control mechanism comprises a housing 18 and a rotatable nylon body 10 containing a spring loaded plunger 14 having an enlarged rear end 22 and a rib 15 which normally engages in annular recess 16 in body 10. In the "off"' "Suniliarias" and "Ignition Light" positions, the front end 17 of plunger 14 projects beyond the edge of body 10 into cam slot 19, being held against the action of spring 23 by rib 15 being engaged in recess 16. When body 10 is moved from the "Ignition Light" to the "Fire" position the slope 21 on cam slot 19 cams plunger 14 inwardly so that rib 15 disengages from recess 16 and as this happens near end 22 of plunger 14 engages inner edge 26 of housing 18 and the mechanisms moves into the position in Fig. 2 at which the engine should start. When the body 10 returns to the "Ignition Light" position spring 23 urges rear end 22 into cam slot 20 so that if an attempt is made to repeat the movement to the "Fire" position, end 22 engages the end of cam slot 20 to prevent this movement and protect the starter motor from damage. If it is desired to return the switch to the "Fire" position, the switch must first be reversed to at least the "Suniliarias" position during which movement the sloping portion 25 of cam slot 20 cams plunger 14 hard into its normal position so that rib 15 re-enters annular recess 16 and end 22 is freed from cam slot 70.
