Abstract

1,222,862. Cleaning tubes. FLEXIBLE DRIVES (GILMAN'S) Ltd. 25 June, 1969 [10 July, 1968], No. 32863/68. Heading F2N. A rotary tool head, for cleaning pipes and tubes and of the kind comprising an elongated body 1 with a number of cutter-carrying spindles 6 spaced around it with their axes extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body and with each spindle having at least one end spring-urged radially outwardly of the body with limited radial movement, is characterized in that each said one end is located by being received in a notch 9 in a flange 8 on the body 1 the notch itself being open at its radially outermost end and being normally closed by a detachable cap 14 that fits over the flange 8. As shown, the other end of each spindle 6, which carries a number of serrated roller cutters 10, is pivoted, at 5, between a pair of lugs 4 symmetrically arranged around the other end of the body 1, the flange 8 being provided with a threaded boss 2<SP>1</SP> for connection to a rotary tool, or flexible drive shaft, which also holds the cap 14 in place. A threaded spigot 3 is also provided at the other end of the body both spigots, if desired, being replaced by threaded recesses. The spigot 3 could be omitted altogether. In a modification, Fig. 3, not shown, the pivot pins 5 are omitted, both ends of each spindle being received in notches in the respective flanges (4<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP>) the notches in the flanges (4<SP>1</SP>) having no springs therein.
