Abstract

1,222,725. Vehicle mudguards and mud flaps. G. E. E. BLOMBERG. 19 April, 1968 [20 April, 1967], No. 18536/68. Heading B7J. A tangential mud flap or peripheral mudguard for a vehicle wheel, comprises ridges 2 formed in the surface facing the wheel, the ridges 2 being transverse to the wheel axis, tapering from base to apex, and forming therebetween grooves or channels 4 each of which has a substantially U-shaped cross-section with the channel walls initially diverging away from the base of the grooves or channels 4 with a decreasing angle of incidence. The ridges 2 are slightly rounded at 5. It is stated that the formation of water mist is prevented by the mud flap or mudguard.
