Abstract

[Also in Division A4] A cover unit for a cushion block (7) is formed by moulding and comprises a flexible fabric or plastics sheet 1, a foamed layer 2 bonded to the underside of the sheet 1 and foamed flank parts 4 for covering the peripheral edge faces of the block (7). In one method of making the unit the sheet 1 is vacuum shaped, Fig. 2, against the surface of a mould 8 with the sheet edges clamped by a die 10 with a passage 12 through which cellular material to form the layer 2 is injected to be shaped in a die recess 11 and adhere to the sheet 1. The sheet 1 and adhered layer 2 are then pressed by a ram 17, Fig. 3, into a mould 13 with an internal surface 32 precoated with cellular material forming the cover flank parts 4. In another method, Fig. 5, a cover sheet 1, after pre-forming in a mould as in Fig. 2, is received in a mould 20 with a core 21 comprising several parts to facilitate its removal. The cellular material forming the layer 2 is injected through a core passage 12 and the material forming the flanks 4 is injected into the annular space surrounding the core 21. In another method (Fig. 6) the layer (22) and the flank parts (28) are moulded in one piece in a mould comprising an annular part (24) and a cover part (23) between which the cover sheet edges (25) are clamped.
