Copy sheets from a stack 109, Fig. 8, are separated by a friction roller 26, Figs. 2 and 8, in response to the tripping of a switch 2 by original sheets fed along a path 1 to the exposure station 102 of an electrophotographic copying machine, and fed by rollers 30, 31 to a conveyer including rollers 18, 116, conveying belts, and a guide 114, and thence to the reproduction station 108 of the machine. The feed speed of the conveyer is greater than that of the separator to avoid overlap of sheets. A change-over switch 58 actuated by the switch 2 and also by a switch 8 tripped by the copy sheets, energizes a magnet 10, Figs. 2 and 3, to release a disc 46 for 180 degrees rotation from a drive source 126, the disc having peripheral recesses 47, 98 engaging a wheel 48 on the shaft 49 of a clutch 37, 41. Rotation of the disc 46 allows a clutch 44, 45 to close, moving thereby a lever 43 to close the clutch 37, 41 and transmit drive to the roller 26 through a slip clutch including a gear-wheel 81 engaging a friction stop 83. Movement of the lever 43 also reverses the switch 58. The roller 30 is continuously driven, and rotation of the disc 46 pivots a lever 99 to allow a spring 75 to urge a wheel 35 and therewith the roller 31 into engagement with the roller 30. When the wheel 35 is again engaged by the lever 99 after 360 degrees of rotation, a flat portion of the roller 31 leaves the sheet free between the rollers. The drive to the roller 26 is disconnected by release of the clutch 37, 41 according to the shape of the clutch parts 44, 45.
