Abstract
1,222,596. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 29 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 56913/68. Heading H2A. A wall of an M.H.D. generator duct comprises a plurality of regularly spaced metal elements 3 secured together in insulating fashion by at least one assembly element 4, the metal elements being separated from one another over part of their lengths by spaces 9, mutual insulation in this region being effected by an insulating gas, e.g. nitrogen, argon or air, passed under pressure from a source 13 through conduits 11 to the spaces 9 and thence into the duct channel. The conduit 11 in each metal element shown is connected to the surrounding spaces through radial bores 10 and each element 3 may be provided with cooling fins at a position 6 adjacent a coolant channel 5, in the assembly element 4. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the metal elements are individually secured together by insulating bodies (17) located between adjacent elements, conduits for the insulating gas being formed in either the elements or insulating bodies. Electrodes (16) may be embedded in the metal elements. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the metal elements are rings or frames.
