Abstract

In a pipe bend 11, more particularly for cracking plant installations, wherein it is heavily stressed by the impingement of solid particles in the flow medium, the sides of the inner surfaces of the pipe bend which face the flow of medium are sub-divided into a number of impingement surfaces 15-18 and 23-26 which are disposed substantially perpendicularly to the direction of flow. The inner wall of the pipe bend is sub-divided, in the projection of the inlet cross-section 14, into the impingement surfaces 15-18 which are parallel and which successively increase in width in the direction of flow of the medium, the impingement surfaces 23-26 on the outlet side 13 of the bend being inclined in relation to one another. As shown, each impingement surface forms a right angle with the adjacent side wall and is located on a line 21 which corresponds to the curvature of the bend, the surfaces 15-18 being substantially rectangular strips which extend downwardly and are curved in their planes to correspond with the cross-section of the bend. If desired, the inner surface 31 can also be provided with impingement surfaces. The impingement surfaces can be reinforced, e.g. with hard metal 32.
