A pipe bend has, at least in the vicinity of the outside of the bend, a plurality of internally located ribs which extend longitudinally of the pipe bend. In the embodiment described, eight rectangular-section, radially projecting ribs are evenly spaced around the whole of the inner wall of the pipe bend and are integral with it. The ribs oppose the formation, by centrifugal forces, of closed loop systems of secondary flow. They are particularly useful when a two phase mixture, e.g. a steam/water mixture is transported, as they ensure maintenance of annular flow, the water forming a continuous film over the entire internal surface of the pipe. The surface on the outside of the bend, which would otherwise be dry, is thereby protected from collision with droplets of water, thus reducing errosion and/or corrosion.
