Abstract

1,221,949. Laminate. BOSTIK Ltd. 21 March, 1968 [22 March, 1967], No. 13345/67. Heading B5N. To prevent sheets of a sound-deadening mixture of bitument, synthetic hydrocarbon rubber and filler, from adhering to each other when they are stored in a stack, a net material of synthetic resin is bonded to at least one surface of each sheet. The net may be woven or non- woven and may be of high-density polyethylene or of polyethylene terephthalate. If both sides of the sheet are covered with a net, the net covering the side which is to be bonded to an article, e.g. a motor car body panel, is of larger mesh than the other net. The net may comprise three sets of parallel strands intersecting each other at about 60 degrees to define triangular holes. Alternatively, two sets of parallel strands may be employed, one being stronger than the other. In the preferred mixture for the sound deadening material, the bitumen may be softened with a mineral or vegetable oil, the synthetic rubber may be butadiene/styrene copolymer, butyl rubber, polybutadiene, polybutene or polyisobutylene, and the filler may be whiting, ground limestone, barytes, mica or silica.
