Abstract
1,221,784. Heparin. J. E. SCOTT. 21 Feb., 1968 [7 April, 1967], No. 16126/67. Heading C3U. Heparin is recovered from, e.g. lung or mucosal tissue or impure solid heparin, by treatment thereof with an aqueous solution of a potassium salt of a substituted or unsubstituted C 1-6 aliphatic carboxylic acid, and having a K ion activity at least equal to that of KCl at the equivalent K concentration, treatment being effected under concentration and temperature conditions such that substantially all the heparin present is dissolved, and the solution being finally cooled, after removal of insolubles, to precipitate K heparinate. Precipitation may be at pH 4À5-9À5. The salt concentration may be at least 1.0 M. The salt may be K acetate, citrate or trichloracetate. The conditions may be adjusted to yield the more active heparin in the precipitate.
