Abstract

1,221,734. Halo-substituted phenyl morpholines. CENTRE EUROPEEN DE RECHERCHES MAUVERNAY. 3 March, 1969 [4 March, 1968; 29 May, 1968; 18 June, 1968], No. 11156/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula wherein X 1 is halogen, or CF 3 in m or p-position, and R is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, are obtained by the steps (1) adding Br 2 to a #-halogenated vinyl ether X-CH 2 CH 2 O-CH = CH 2 (where X is halogen) (2) reacting the resultant X-CH 2 CH 2 -O-CH(Br)-CH 2 Br with an organomagnesium compound X 1 -C 6 H 4 MgBr to yield a compound of formula and (3) reacting this compound with a compound of formula R-NH 2 . To obtain the compound in which R is hydrogen, preferably the corresponding benzyl compound is subjected to catalytic hydrogenation. This product can be methylated by heating with a mixture of formic acid and aqueous formaldehyde to form a compound of Formula (V) in which R is CH 3 . Pharmaceutical compositions having tranquilizing, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, comprise compounds of Formula V or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, together with the usual excipients, in forms suitable for oral, rectal or intravenous administration.
