Abstract
1,221,486. Contact apparatus; mixing apparatus; contacting gases with liquids. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE Ved. 31 May, 1968 [13 June, 1967], No. 26087/68. Headings B1C, B1F and B1R. Apparatus for contacting two fluid phases comprises a longitudinally extending vessel provided with inlets and outlets for the supply and the discharge of fluids respectively, there being arranged in the vessel at least two spaced transversely extending plates, means being provided for simultaneously reciprocating the plates in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the vessel, the plates being provided with a plurality of first holes and at least one second hole, the area of the or each second hole or the smallest second hole if they are of different sizes being at least three times greater than the area of a first hole or the largest first hole if they are of different sizes, the number of first holes being at least 65% of the total number of holes in the plate and each plate being positioned so that the holes thereof are not in axial alignment with the holes of an adjacent plate. Examples of plates are shown in Figs. 1, 5 and 6. The apparatus can be used for liquid/liquid extraction, absorbing gases in liquids and for carrying out chemical reactions between liquids and/or gases.
