Abstract

1,221,301. Bus-bars. SIMPLEX-GE MFG. Ltd. 9 May, 1968 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 6228/67. Heading HlA. [Also in Division H2] Live parts of electrical apparatus are protected by a shell formed from insulating sheet material and snap-fastened thereto. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, a portion 125 of an angled bracket 123 is clamped by a bolt 117 to a bus-bar 116 and to a portion of a contact 113 which leads to a fuse contained in a fuse-holder 110. A portion 126 of the bracket 123 is clamped, together with a U-shaped ferrule 127, which encloses the end of a cable 128, by a U-bolt 129 and a bridge-piece 131. A protective shell is formed in two portions, each comprising frusto-conical end sections 135 having walls 137 apertured for the cable 128, a deeper, central section 138, and a peripheral flange having apertures 145, 146 to accommodate fasteners for joining the two shell portions. A channelshaped shell 150 extending into the central section 138 protects portions of the bus-bar 116 outside the protective shell. Circumferential ribs (not shown) may strengthen the shell, which may be formed from polyvinyl chloride sheet by vacuum deformation, as may the channel member 150. A number of fuse-holders 110 may be mounted side-by-side on a channelshaped support 115. In another embodiment (Figs. 5, 6, not shown), a protective shield is divided along a plane parallel to the base of a fuse-holder (210); and a cable (228) extending parallel to a bus-bar (216) is clamped to a bracket portion (226) by a screw (252) in a U-shaped saddle (227). In another embodiment (Figs. 1, 2, not shown), a bracket (23) has an end portion (24) which extends inside a fuse-holder (10) where it is clamped to a contact (13) and a bus-bar (16). Since the bus-bar (16) extends within the fuse-holder (10), parallel to the portion (24) of the bracket (23), the channel 150 is omitted.
