Abstract

1,221,178. Barbed tape unit. PHYSICS TECHNOLOGY LABORATORIES, Inc. 27 June, 1969 [1 July, 1968], No. 32598/69. Heading E1B. A barbed tape unit comprises a helical coil of substantially flat tape 10 with spaced barbs 12 therealong, the barbs being of X section stacked in a dispenser with the plane of the tape perpendicular to the axis of the unit. In a modification two coils 36, 38 are housed in separate channels 48, 50 in one dispenser. Spacing wires to 40 and 42 are connected to identical positions on spaced loops and may be staked to the ground after deployment. Additional connecting wires 44 may be provided. All the wires may be looped round or spot welded to the tapes. The tape may have a V- or U-shaped channel along its centre for strengthening. The unit may be an oval or polygonal section helix.
