Abstract

1,221,150. Mounting resistance heating elements. E. KOLFERTZ. 28 April, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 21470/69. Heading H5H. A resilient impact cushioning device incorporating a cap 7 is fitted over the lower end of a glass tube 6 enclosing a heating coil 4, with its supporting ceramic insulation 5 and sealed by a plug 11, the rod-shaped heating element 1 being suspended from the wall of an aquarium (not shown) so as to be immersed in the water. Cap 7 may be a suction cap, but for the preferred cushioning device, the protective cap 7 is carried by the rubber plug 11, which forms a watertight seal in the tube 6. The plug 11 is mounted on a central pin 10 projecting axially upwards in the interior of the cap 7 and is supported on a flange 9 projecting from the cap bottom 8. The cap 7 is of synthetic plastics material and the outer wall 12 is conically flared, as shown, the upper rim contacting the aquarium wall to cushion any impacts. Sand separates the ceramic 5 and tube 6.
