Abstract

1,220,502. Diphenylamine derivatives. AMERICAN METAL CLIMAX Inc. 10 Jan., 1968 [1 Feb., 1967], No. 29939/70. Divided out of 1,220,501. Heading C2C. 3,5 - Dimethoxy - 2,4,6,2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>1</SP> - hexanitrodiphenylamine is claimed per se. The compound is prepared by reacting picryl chloride with an equal quantity of 3,5-dimethoxy aniline to form 3,5 - dimethoxy - 2,4,6 - trinitrodiphenylamine. This intermediate is dissolved in acetic anhydride and nitrated with HNO 3 to form two isomers 3,5 - dimethoxy - 2,6,2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>1</SP> - pentanitrodiphenylamine and 3,5-dimethoxy-2,4,21,41,61- pentanitrodiphenylamine. The latter isomer is further nitrated with nitric acid to form the claimed product.
