Abstract

1,220,488. Emulsifier for water in oil emulsions. GRINDSTEDVAERKET A.S. 1 March, 1968 [3 March, 1967], No. 10128/68. Heading C3R. An emulsifier for water in oil emulsions is made by reacting at 100-130‹ C. (a) at least one aliphatic di- or tri-basic carboxylic acid having 4-6 C atoms and 0-2 hydroxyl groups, or such hydroxy groups esterified with acetic or propionic acid with (b) one or more monoglycerides of saturated or unsaturated fatty acids having 12-24 C atoms and then further heating the reaction product to 135-190‹ C. The product preferably has average MW greater than 2000. Specified acids are succinic, tricarballylic, maleic, malic, tartaric and citric. Specified monoglycerides are those from lard fatty acid and oleic acid. The examples disclose diacetyl tartaric anhydride with lard monoglyceride (high per cent of α - monoglyceride).
