1,220,372. Cigarette-making machines. SERVICE D'EXPLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TABACS ET DES ALLUMETTES. 5 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 16403/68. Heading A2C. [Also in Division G1] Accumulation at a particular section of a conduit of material in divided form, being transported by a carrier fluid along the conduit, is detected by sensing the change in fluid pressure downstream of the , blockage. As shown (Fig. 1), tobacco is brought on conveyer 25 to a conduit 9 where it is carried, by air from a pump 6, to a perforated belt 15. If a blockage occurs in the shaded area of conduit 1, the pressure in chamber 19 will fall, and is sensed by an electric transducer 16. At a predetermined pressure, control means 17, 18 are energized to reverse the directions of fluid flow through the system, whereby the blocking material is blown into chamber 21 and removed. Alternatively, the whole machine may be stopped, or the conveyer 23 alone stopped or slowed down. The machine may be stopped after a preset number of flow reversals in a given period of time. An additional nozzle 22, connected to a pulsed air supply, may be provided to aid in removal of blockage material.
