Abstract

1,219,932. Electro-depositing bright zinc. LEA-RONAL Inc. May 10, 1968 [May 22, 1967], No.22309/68. Heading C7B. Bright zinc is electro-deposited from an aqueous alkaline bath, preferably of pH above 12, which is devoid of or contains only a small amount of cyanide and contains a dissolved zinc compound and as an additive a water-soluble reaction product of molecular weight above 250 formed from an alkylene polyamine containing one or more tertiary amine or quaternary ammonium groups and an epihalohydrin. Typically zinc is added as the oxide, sulphate or acetate together with sodium or potassium hydroxide and the watersoluble additive is a condensation product of molecular weight 4000 to 5000 formed from epichlorohydrin and dimethylaminopropylamine. Preferably known aldehyde brighteners for zinc are also included in the bath such as vanillin, hydroxybenz aldehyde, anisic aldehyde and their bisulphite addition products. Plating may be effected on to steel cathodes at 25 to 50 amps/sq. ft.
