Abstract

1,219,706. Treatment of metal or alloy melts. NIPPON KOKAN K. K. May 13, 1969 [May 13, 1968], No.24427/69. Heading C7D. A wire or rod of Al, Ca, Cr, Mg, Nb, Ni, Pb or an alloy thereof, at least 5mm (e.g. 5-10mm) in diameter is fed into a molten metal at the rate of at least 5m. /sec (e.g. 5-10m./sec.) and substantially at right angles to the surface of the melt. The invention is exemplified by deoxidizing or alloying a steel melt with Al. The apparatus disclosed comprises a drum 1 Fig. 2 wound with the wire or rod 4, with an electromagnetic brake 5, a feeding device 2 including straightening rolls 6 and feed rolls 8 driven by motor 7 and a feed guide 3.
