Abstract

1,219,566. Cooling cables. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 21 Feb., 1968 [7 Dec., 1966], No. 54848/66. Heading H1A. [Also in Division H2] An underground power cable 1 is cooled by evaporation of liquid supplied to fibrous material 15 wrapped around the cable and by supplying air to remove the resultant vapour. As shown, several cables 1 are cooled by water dripping from pipe 7 and the resultant vapour removed by a stream of air from pipe 8, the air flow being concentrated round the cables by a shield 14, the upper and lower portions of which also serve as ducts for the removal respectively of the mixture of air and vapour and of excess water.
