Abstract

1,218,019. Optically sensitized photographic silver halide material. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. Nov.7, 1968 [Nov.27, 1967], No.53749/67. Heading G2C. An optically sensitized photographic lightsensitive material comprises at least one silver halide emulsion layer, a rhodacarboxyamine dye whose sensitizing activity extends beyond 700 nm and corresponding to the general formula I and at least one carbocyamine dye of the general formula II:- wherein each of R 1 and R 2 (the same of different) is substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, allyl, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryl or cycloalkyl, R 3 is substituted or unsubstituted alkyl; allyl, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl; R 4 is alkoxy or substituted or unsubstituted amino; R 5 is a hydrogen atom, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl; R 6 is alkyl; each of Z 1 and Z 2 are the non-metallic atoms necessary to complete the same or different, substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic nuclei which are selected from the thiazole nucleus, the benzothiazole nucleus, the naphtholthiazole nucleus, the selenazole nucleus, the benzoselenazole nucleus, and the naphthoselenazole nucleus; each Q 1 and Q 2 (the same or different) is S or Se; each of A and B (the same or different) is hydrogenation, a fused benzene ring, a tatramethylene group, a methylene dioxy group or one or more substituents selected from alkyl, aryl, aloxy, alkylthio, halogen and hydroxyl; and Xe stands for an anion when one of R 1 and R 2 itself does not contain an anionic group. Both the said rhodacarbocyanine and the said carbocyanine may be present in the said silver halide emulsion layer(s) in amounts between 10mg and 1g per mole of silver halide. The optically sensitized silver halide emulsion layer used in the examples is a gelatine silver bromochloroiodide or silver bromoiodide emulsion layer with cameraspeed. The present invention provides photographic silver halide materials with camera-speed having a homogeneous and uniform spectral sensitivity extending from the blue to the extreme red region of the spectrum.
