Abstract

1,217,328. Exercising device. APOLLO DISTRIBUTORS Ltd. 23 July, 1968 [24 July, 1967], No. 33989/67. Heading A6M. An exercising device comprises a base providing a platform, a rotatable member 82 having a cylindrical braking surface mounted in the hose, brake means on the hose for frictionally braking the rotatable member, a pulley 93 rotatably mounted on the rotatable member, interlocking means 108 which locks the pulley to the rotatable member when it is rotated in one direction by a cord 18 around therearound but not when it is rotated in the opposite direction by resilient means 115 to rewind the cord. The interlocking means may comprise a spring loaded pawl 108 engaging slots 90 in the rotatable member, or may be an overiding clutch. The braking means comprises leather strips 65 and 66, the latter mounted on an adjustable member 43. The braking force is varied by adjusting the force with which the member 43 engages the rotatable member by adjusting bolt 70 which carries a pointer 71 cooperating with a scale. Alternatively a fixed force may be applied to member 43 by a fixed screw or a spring. The resilient means 115 may be an elastic string or a coil -spring (Fig. 9, not shown). Two rotatable members, pulleys, braking means and cords may be mounted side by side (Fig. 1 not shown), and a common handle (Fig. 1) or separate grips (Fig. 7 not shown) provided for the cords. Hooks (Fig. 8, not shown) may be provided for hanging the base from wall bars.
