Abstract

1,217,122. Dicarbonates. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 16 Jan., 1969 [17 Jan., 1968], No. 2540/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Aromatic urethane compounds of the formula wherein -NH-A-NH- is the residue of an organic dissocyanate; n is an integer from 1 to 10; R 1 , R 2 , R 4 and R 5 are each a hydrogen atom or the same or different aliphatic radicals, but R 1 and R 2 may not be hydrogen atoms simultaneously in Formula (I) and R 4 and R 5 may not simultaneously be hydrogen atoms when R 1 and R 2 are both hydrogen atoms in Formula (II); R 5 may be a hydroxy radical; and R 3 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic group or a phenolic group of the formula in which R 6 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic radical may be prepared by reacting an organic diisooyanate with a phenolic compound of the formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 have the above meanings. In specific examples aromatic methane compounds are prepared by reacting (1) 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate and 4,4<SP>1</SP>- methylene - bis - (3 - methyl - 6 - tert. - butylphenol), (2) 1,3-xylene diisocyanate and 4,4<SP>1</SP>- butylidene - bis - (3 - methyl - 6 - tert. - butyl. phenol), (3) m-phenylene diisocyanate and 2,6- bis - (2<SP>1</SP>- hydroxy - 3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - ditert. - butyl benzyl)- 4 - ditert. - butyl - phenol and (4) a mixture of 2,4- and 2,6-tolulene diisocyanates and 2,5-bis- (2-hydroxy-4-methyl benzyl)-1,4-xylene.
