Abstract

1,217,062. Stackable receptacles. MIDWEST METALLIC PRODUCTS Inc. 9 April, 1968 [26 April, 1967], No. 17040/68. Heading B8P. A stackable receptacle has planar shelves 28 extending along the upper edges of each side wall and having inclined end portions 28a such that as the shoes 30 of a like upper receptacle are slid along the shelves, they will descend the end portions and lower the upper receptacle such that lower tiering support portions 19a- 21a of the upper receptacle will interlock &c. with upper tiering support portions 19..21 of the lower receptacle. Relative lateral movement of the side walls during the stacking operation is prevented by ribs &c. 29 which engage the shoulders 30a of the shoes 30. A cam 33 with a portion inclining downwardly toward a side wall, Fig. 8 (not shown), may be used to guide and drop that side wall so that the cam shoulder (33a) and shoulder 30a lie on opposite sides of rib 29. The support portions 19a-21a may be in the form of projections downwardly extending from the outside of each side wall and the coacting portions 19-21 may be upwardly opening pockets on the inside of each side wall. The support portions 20a and 21a may have hooks 24 to lock beneath shoulders 25 of the support portions 20 and 21. Each of the upper support portions 19-21 may be provided with a horizontal guide (31), Fig. 6 (not shown), along which the support portions 19a-21a slide into engagement with the support portions 19-21. Means may also be provided for nesting a receptacle within another. Strengthening ribs (22), Fig. 6 (not shown), may be provided.
