Abstract
1,216,938. Room-temperature-vulcanizing compositions. WACKER-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 13 Dec., 1968 [14 Dec., 1967], No. 59501/68. Heading C3T. A room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) composition curing to an elastomer in the presence of water comprises (1) a diorganopolysiloxane having terminal Si-bound OH or hydrolysable groups, (2) a cross-linking amino- or acylaminosubstituted organosilicon compound having at least 3 hydrolysable groups per molecule, (3) 2-20 wt. per cent of the total organic silicon compounds of an inorganic filler of surface area 100-200 m.<SP>2</SP>/g., and (4) at least 0À2 wt. per cent of the total composition of a pulverulent alkali or alkaline earth metal aluminium silicate having molecular sieve properties. The polysiloxane (1) may be of general formula wherein R is a monovalent optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, x+y is 3, x is 0À99-1À01, y is 1À99-2À00 and n is at least 3, or the HO groups may be partially or wholly replaced by groups -NHR, or alkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy group or H atoms; preferably at least 50% of the groups R are CH 3 , any remainder being vinyl and/or phenyl radicals. Suitable amino compounds (2) are of the formula R<SP>11</SP> p SiZ 4-p or R<SP>11</SP> p Si(NR<SP>111</SP>COR<SP>11</SP>) 4-p wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, R<SP>11</SP> is an optionally substituted monovalent hydrocarbon radical or a C 1-4 alkoxy radical, R<SP>111</SP> is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical or hydrogen, Z is an aminoalkoxy radical, m is 0, 1 or 2, n is 0 or an integer and p is 0, 1, 2 or 3. Preferably, there is at least one molecule of (2) per reactive end group in (1); usually (2) will amount to 0À2-15 wt. per cent of the total composition. The filler (3) may be aerogel, pyrogenic or precipitated SiO 2 , or TiO 2 , fe 2 O 3 , Al 2 O 3 or ZnO. The silicate (4) may be a natural or synthetic dehydrated zeolite, and may amount to 0À2-5 wt. per cent of the total composition. There may also be present other fillers, of less than 50 m.<SP>2</SP>/g., of which some are listed, the total filler content of the compositions being 5-90 wt. per cent. Preferably, component (2) is added in one or more stages, to a mixture of all the other components. In Examples a hydroxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane is mixed with a trimethylsilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, quartz powder or calcined aluminium silicate, pyrogenic SiO 2 of 130 or 140 m.<SP>2</SP>/g., and sodium or calcium aluminium silicate having 4 or 5 Angstrom pore diameters, and methyl - tris - (n - butylamino) - silane or methyl - tris - (cyclohexylamino) - silane is added in portions to give RTV compositions.
