Abstract

1,216,925. Microporous polyurethane sheets. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 26 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967], No. 19972/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] A microporous polyurethane sheet is formed from an aqueous dispersion of a polyurethane (urea) which has salt-type groups, an average M.W. above 20,000, and in homogeneous, solid form, a Shore A hardness of 30-98, the dispersion having a particle size above 5Á, by forming a sheet structure of the dispersion, e.g. by casting, followed by melt-sintering at 80- 220‹ C. Casting may be on a smooth surface from which the sintered film is removed, or may be on, e.g. a clay tablet, cotton cloth or a fleece, whereby a porous coated structure is obtained. The preparation of the polyurethanes and their dispersions is described (see Division C3). The films have high water vapour permeability.
