A catalytic material comprises a support made of asbestos based fabric and adapted to be traversed by a combustible gas from an entry face to an exit face of the fabric, the latter carrying a lcatalyst deposit on its entry and exit faces with the quantity of catalyst on the entry face being smaller than the total quantity of catalyst on the exit face. Examples describe Pt-on-asbestos preparations.
