A catalytic material comprises a support made of asbestos based fabric and adapted to be traversed by a combustible gas from an entry face to an exit face of the fabric, the latter carrying a lcatalyst deposit on its entry and exit faces with the quantity of catalyst on the entry face being smaller than the total quantity of catalyst on the exit face.
