Abstract

1,216,879. Fuel cell with aluminium gasket and fused electrolyte. BOLT BERANEK & NEWMAN Inc. 11 June, 1968 [20 June, 1967] No. 27753/68. Heading H1B. Molten anhydrous electrolyte is contained in a housing having a removable wall held under pressure against the other walls and separated therefrom by an aluminium gasket of thickness such that it is deformed at the temperature of the molten electrolyte to form a seal. The Figure shows a fuel cell housing 1, made, e.g., of nickel, containing an electrolyte, e.g. an NaOH/KOH mixture, held at 400-600‹ C. to maintain it molten and anhydrous and having a cover 1<SP>11</SP>, also of nickel, carrying fuel and oxidant inlets 2 and 4 and a vent 10, sealed by an aluminium wire or strip of thickness 0À01- 0À05 inch clamped by bolts 7 against flange 1<SP>1</SP>.
