Abstract

121,647. Lowden, E. H. July 3, 1918. Automatic-feed weighers. -- An automatic weighing and tipping machine for coal or other granular material, particularly applicable for weighing the coal fed from overhead bunkers to the mechanical stoker of a boiler furnace, comprises one or more pairs of tipping buckets 1 mounted oppositely in a drum or barrel 2 adapted to rotate upon an axle 3 carried by a. lever arm 5 controlled by a counter-weight, the periphery of the drum being adapted to close the mouth of the bunker shoot 8 during the rotation from one bucket position to another. The mouth of the shoot 8 is movable relatively to the main body of the shoot to prevent the drum 2 from, jamming, and the lower part of the drum is surrounded by a funnel-shaped casing 11 leading to the shoot 12 which supplies the stoker. A flap 13 in the shoot 12 is connected by linkage 15, 16 with a brake lever 17 adapted to engage the drum 2 when the flap is pushed outwards by an accumulation of coal in the shoot. When a bucket registers with the mouth of the shoot 8, its edge 9 comes into engagement with a roller 10. A cyclometer or other recording-indicator may be mounted on the axle 3 to record the number of revolutions of the drum 2.
