Abstract
121,638. Budd, G. W. H. Dec. 28, 1917. Spills.-A folder for use in making paper and like spills is shown in plan in Fig. 2, and longitudinal section in Fig. 3; cross sections of the folder at BB, CC. DD, and EE, Fig. 2, being shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively. Fig. 9 shows a folded spill in cross section. The folder is formed of a strip of sheet metal, the central rear part a of which is flat and has its edges b, c turned over to receive and guide the paper to be folded; the edges b, c, are folded so as to approach each other gradually, as shown in Fig. 2, and are then pressed downwardly and inwardly, as shown at b<2>, c<2>, and b<3>, c<3>, Figs. 3, 5, and 6. Beyond the section line DD, the folder is reduced in width and the sides are pressed towards each other, and one edge is folded over the other so that, at the delivery end, there is a vertical discharge passage e, as shown in Fig. 7. In a modified form of the folder, adapted to produce a spill, the cross-section of which is shown in Fig. 12, one side of the folder is bent in the manner shown in Fig. 2, but the opposite side is gradually bent over into a vertical position as it approaches the delivery end The ends b<5>, c<5> of the folder, Fig. 13, may be formed as knife blades, or the folder may have an extension a<1> to serve as a paper knife for use in cutting a strip of paper to be folded into a spill. A roll or spool of paper may be mounted on the feeding-end of the folder.
