In a method of making elongated articles by drawing a soft sheet through a passage in which it is shaped and hardened, friction is greatly reduced by introducing a gaseous medium between the walls of the passage and the sheet. Thermoplastic and thermosetting resins with or without reinforcing fleeces or covering foils, may be shaped in this manner the gaseous medium being cooled to effect the hardening in the former case and hot to effect setting in the latter case. Where a resin impregnated fleece is being used a tough layer of resin is formed on the outer surfaces of the furnished article which layer precludes deterioration of the fibres of the fleece by the atmosphere. In the embodiment illustrated in the Figure, a corrugated sheet 1 is formed in a slightly oversized passage defined by upper and lower elements 3 and 2, the layers of gas 6 being formed by air introduced through bores in the element walls and leaving via the edges of the passage. The spacing of the bores may be arranged so that the air pressure is greater at the troughs than at the ridges, this concentrating any slight flow under gravity of the resin from the ridges to the troughs and thus maintaining a product of uniform thickness.
